What has become of those gallant feelings nowadays? Sixty years ago a man was a MAN, in old Ireland, and the sword that was worn by his side was at the service of any gentleman’s gizzard, upon the slightest difference. But the good old times and usages are fast fading away. One scarcely ever hears of a fair meeting now, and the use of those cowardly pistols, in place of the honourable and manly weapon of gentlemen, has introduced a deal of knavery into the practice of duelling, that cannot be sufficiently deplored. — William Makepeace Thackeray, The Luck of Barry Lyndon, 1844, Chapter 2, “I Show Myself to Be a Man of Spirit”

SHE HAD A SHOOTER UP HER COOTER — Oklahoma methhead Christie Dawn Harris is arrested. As she is processed for jail, a strip search by the Ada Police Department reveals a world of danger stashed in her lady parts.

According to the police report:

“Christie removed her shoes, socks, top and pants. When I asked Christie to lower her underware [sic], she advised that she was on her period and did not want to. I advised Christie that she needed to lower her underware [sic] so that I could make sure she had no contraband, and she did. I observed at the time, a wooden and metal item sticking out from her vagina area. Christie attempted to turn her back to me, and I observed the item from her vagina, and found it to be a 5 shot revolver, with rounds in the chambers. I called for assistance, and Sgt Nortcutt opened the curtain, and I handed him the firearm. I them retrieved from between Christie’s buttock, two clear baggies containing a large amount of a crystal substance.”

Antique pistolets from the collection of Frederic Spitzer (1815-1890). The Vienna-born Spitzer was one of the leading collectors of 19th century Europe, dealing in art, ivory, weapons, anything that piqued his interest. An 1893 newspaper article described him as “a man of humble, even low origin, who possessed the instinct of the curiosity hunter, the flair du bibelot. He commenced life as a peddling curiosity monger, then established himself as a curiosity dealer in Paris. His artistic knowledge soon became known, and collectors like Baron Adolphe de Rothschild and Sir Richard Wallace confided their interests to him.”
