John Wayne on the set of Sands of Iwo Jima (1949) — The Duke made smoking five packs a day look so damn cool. When he lost a lung and four ribs to cancer in 1964, he reminded us why it’s bad for you. According to legend, Wayne said “I licked the big C.”
